It includes all of the necessary tools to design, implement, simulate and maintain control solutions based on SIMATIC Control Platforms (S7-300, S7-400, C7, WinAC PC-Based Control, and ET200 CPUs), offering unparalleled scalability in both functionality and performance. 
STEP 7 provides a comprehensive development and configuration environment for creating a Totally Integrated Automation solution while improving engineering productivity and reducing implementation times. Its extensive scope of functionality addresses all phases of an automation project ranging from programming and configuring to testing through on-going maintenance. The STEP 7 project manager (SIMATIC Manager) uses a true project or system-wide scope, encompassing multiple S7 CPUs, the associated distributed peripherals, all system networking, and the integrated human machine interface (HMI) and business system data integration. STEP 7 is your single point for system-wide engineering. 
 
SIMATIC STEP 7 is now available in its fifth generation and fully complies with the international standard IEC 61131-3 for PLC programming languages. The IEC standard helps you to structure your programs to increase re-usability, reduce errors and increase programming and user efficiency. With STEP 7, programmers can select between different programming languages. Besides ladder diagram (LAD) and function block diagram (FBD), STEP 7 Basis also includes the Instruction List (STL) programming language. Other additional options are available for IEC 61131-3 programming languages such as the high level language Structured Text (ST) called SIMATIC S7-SCL or a Sequential Function Chart (SFC) called SIMATIC S7-Graph, providing a very efficient way to describe sequential control systems graphically.
